Course curriculum

Module 1 - November 2020

Day 1

  • Basic Theories of Pain: definitions; terminology; concepts and theories of Pain; Measuring pain; neurophysiology of pain; anatomy and neurophysiology of orofacial pain
  • TMJ anatomy and physiology; Biomechanics of TMJ; Diagnostic modalities; TMJ imaging; Imaging for OFP
  • Hands on: Clinical examination of TMJ/ Orofacial Pain patient

Day 2

  • TMJ dysfunction; TMD’S; Internal derangements
  • Myofascial Pain; understanding trigger points
  • Basics of Sleep Apnea for Dentists: relation to OFP

Day 3

  • Non-dental tooth aches
  • Dental occlusion: evidence based ; myths; controversies
  • Role of occlusion in TMD’s
  • TMJ science for re-constructive dentists/ prosthodontist
  • Joint vibration; scans for TMJ; Joint tracking etc.

Module 2

Day 1

  • Neurovascular OFP
  • Neuropathic OFP
  • Trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias

Day 2

  • Evaluation of OFP Patient: CLINICAL hands on
  • Appliance Therapy for TMD/ Splints: evidence based and anecdotal
  • BRUXISM

Day 3

  • Understanding trigger point injections: hands on
  • Diagnostic blocks
  • Advanced Imaging for TMD/OFP

Module 3

Day 1

  • TMJ arthritis; arthritides
  • Pharmacology of OFP
  • Mandibular movement disorders
  • Surgical management of TMD’s

Day 2

  • Advanced TMJ techniques
  • Clinical cases: D/D and Mx of OFP cases

Day 3

  • Clinical cases: D/D and Mx of OFP cases
  • Role of dentists in sleep medicine
  • Sleep Breathing disorders / OSA
  • Evaluation of the Sleep apnea Patient: Hands on ( clinical)
  • Airway evaluation for OSA

Module 4

Day 1

  • Understanding sleep studies: PSG
  • Appliance therapy for OSA
  • Impressions, Bite registration for MAD’s: clinical component/ hands on

Day 2

  • Delivery of sleep appliance/ adjustments/ follow up protocol; clinical/ hands on
  • Management of TMD symptoms, complications of appliance Tx

Day 3

  • Summary review of Sleep medicine
  • Practice management in dental sleep medicine
  • Adjunctive therapy for sleep disorders

Day 4

  • Convocation
